I have been unable to set up a Dynamic PPTP connection using a DIR 615 M1 with 1.0.9 firmware. The routing table shows incorrect entries with the PPTP destination showing as 0.0.0.0 and the correct PPTP destination listed under eth1.

Do you have any problem with it?

Yes. I need to use PPTP to access a VPN site in the UK. I have an old DIR 300 as backup and this works without problems using the same settings. Is there a problem with the 1.0.9 firmware with PPTP connections? Non PPTP connections works OK.

No. May be you have wrong information about encryption or authentication algorithm? Did you restore your device to factory settings after upgrade the firmware? Please, show an image of network statistics.

The encryption or authentication algorithms are those specified by the VPN supplier - and work correctly with a DIR 300. I have restored the factory settings. Please explain why the router table seems to have incorrect entries.

Others have had the same problem with PPTP.

I am still not able to do a PPTP connection using this router. There are a few further pointers that seen relevant. One is that the router claims that is connected to the VPN server (on the connection status line) despite there being no functional connection. The other pointer is that immediately after setting up the router to do the PPTP connection an internet connection does become available for what seems to be a few hundred packets of data - after which the connection is frozen. Checking the connection with a DIR 130 with the same settings shows no problem with the PPTP connection. Israeli DLink support have been able to reproduce the problem but have no solution so far.

Thanks for the file - but it does not load correctly.

About half way through the firmware update process the router reports
"Device is Ready" and the download finishes.

After this and doing a factory reset the router is unchanged - still
showing firmware to be 1.0.9 and behaving in the same way as previously -
i.e. it says that it has a PPTP connection but after a few packets of data
are received the connection freezes. Also, the router table remains
incorrect.

I have repeated the download and resets with no change.

Set the static addresses for your network adapter like this:
IP 192.168.0.7
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
primary dns 8.8.8.8

Then you need to connect to router by cable. Switch power off and hold "reset" button. Turn power on and hold the button for 10 seconds. Release the button and open 192.168.0.1 in Firefox browser. Push "Open" and find firmware. Then use Upload button.

I was able to do the firmware update to 1.0.13 using the backdoor method you described - and then did a factory reset.
However, the only difference now is that a few more packets of data are passed via the PPTP connection before the connection freezes. Previously I could only manage to logon to the BBC iPlayer TV site before the connection froze - but now I get a little further with the error message of not being in the UK (so the connection was not actually using my UK VPN). I note also that the router connection table is still wrong. After a power on reset the router behaves in the same way with the ability to pass just a few packets of data and then freezing. I should emphasize that using exactly the same configuration settings on my DIR 130 I have no trouble accessing the iPlayer TV site from Israel. My PPTP connection is using MPPE 128 bit and MSChap V2 authentication.
